About me
Hello, I'm Maarten. I work to build great cybersecurity programs that leave society a little safer and more resilient every day.
I'm a cybersecurity executive with over two decades of experience protecting organizations around the world. I was Chief Security Officer at Adobe and Chief Trust Officer at Zendesk, and have held people and technical leadership roles at technology companies including Fastly, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.
I was born in 1981 and grew up in Herselt, in the Flanders region of Belgium. I hold a Master's degree in Information Security and Intelligence from Edith Cowan University and a Master's degree in International Relations from Freie Universität Berlin. I served on the Board of the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) from 2011–2021, including a term as Chairman, representing the largest global association of security teams. For ten years, I served as Lead Expert to the IGF's Best Practice Forum on Cybersecurity.
My most important role in life is being a dad and husband. I also enjoy spending time in solitude in nature, traveling, and practicing Aikido. Photography has always been something I loved, as is camping and hiking in the California outdoors. Just give me a shout if there's anything you want to tell or ask me.
